Scale-Smart Telehealth provides convenient, confidential virtual family planning care for patients across Texas.
Whether you are considering birth control for the first time, want to change your current method, need emergency contraception, or simply want to discuss your reproductive goals, we provide individualized counseling to help you understand your options and choose an appropriate plan based on your health history, preferences, and goals.
Birth Control Counseling & Prescriptions
Choosing birth control is not one-size-fits-all.
During your virtual visit, we review your medical history, medications, reproductive goals, menstrual history, blood pressure, weight, and other factors that may affect which contraceptive methods are appropriate for you.
Depending on your individual medical eligibility, options may include:
- Birth control pills
- Progestin-only pills
- Contraceptive patch
- Vaginal ring
- Injectable contraception (Depo-Provera)
- Emergency contraception
When clinically appropriate, prescriptions can be sent electronically to your pharmacy.
What You’ll Need for Your Virtual Visit
To help us safely determine which contraceptive options may be appropriate for you, please have:
A recent blood pressure reading: You may use a home blood pressure monitor or obtain a blood pressure reading before your appointment.
Your current weight: Your weight is important when reviewing your overall health and selecting appropriate contraceptive or emergency contraception options.
Pregnancy testing when appropriate: You may be asked to complete a home urine pregnancy test before your appointment and provide the result during your visit. If laboratory pregnancy testing is needed, Scale-Smart Telehealth can order the test for you.
Long-Acting Birth Control
Interested in an IUD or contraceptive implant such as Nexplanon?
Scale-Smart Telehealth can provide counseling to help you understand long-acting reversible contraceptive options and determine whether one may be appropriate for you. Because IUDs and contraceptive implants require an in-person procedure, patients will be referred to an appropriate healthcare provider for placement.
Emergency Contraception
If you have had unprotected intercourse, experienced birth control failure, missed contraception, or are otherwise concerned about pregnancy risk, Scale-Smart Telehealth provides confidential virtual consultations to discuss emergency contraception.
Recommendations are individualized based on factors including when the unprotected intercourse occurred, current contraception, weight, medical history, and other clinical considerations.
When clinically appropriate, an emergency contraception prescription can be sent electronically to your pharmacy. Because emergency contraception is time-sensitive, patients should seek care as soon as possible after unprotected intercourse or contraceptive failure.
Reproductive & Preconception Planning
Family planning isn’t only about preventing pregnancy.
If you are thinking about becoming pregnant now or in the future, we can discuss your reproductive goals, menstrual history, medications, medical conditions, lifestyle factors, and steps you can take to prepare for a healthy pregnancy. Laboratory testing or referral for additional evaluation may be recommended when appropriate.
Contraception Follow-Up
Already using birth control? Follow-up virtual visits are available to discuss:
- Side effects or concerns
- Breakthrough or irregular bleeding
- Medication questions
- Changing birth control methods
- Contraceptive refills when appropriate
- Changes in your reproductive goals
Family Planning for Adolescents
Scale-Smart Telehealth follows Texas consent requirements when providing family planning services to minors. For patients under 18, parental or legal guardian consent may be required for prescription contraception unless an applicable legal exception allows the minor to consent to the requested service. Our intake process will help determine the appropriate consent requirements before care is provided.
Need STI Testing Too?
Sexually transmitted infection screening may be an important part of reproductive and sexual health. Scale-Smart Telehealth also offers confidential STI evaluation, laboratory testing, results review, and treatment when clinically appropriate. Please visit our Women’s Health Services page to learn more about STI and vaginal health services.
Private. Personalized. Convenient.
With Scale-Smart Telehealth, patients receive individualized family planning care from a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner without the inconvenience of a traditional waiting room.
Virtual care across Texas. No insurance required. Self-pay care. When an in-person examination, procedure, imaging, or specialty service is needed, an appropriate referral will be recommended.
